We are delighted to welcome Ian Mundy to Unimutual and our manager Regis Mutual Management. As Business Development Director for Unimutual, Ian is responsible for our key relationships with brokers, universities, student residential collages, higher education sector organisations and research institutes.
He will also be driving expansion of Unimutual’s membership base as part of the Board’s strategic plan. This will involve identifying other higher education and research related sectors and entities that could benefit from protecting their reputations, assets and liabilities and profitability through not-for-profit risk management and loss prevention.
Ian’s background includes insurance, general insurance, broking, local government, workers compensation and health at the likes of Marsh, Insurance House Group and Jardine Lloyd Thomson Australia and his own business, Aspen Corporate Health (Health on the Move), which he ran for more than 18 years.
Originally a West Australian but now based in Sydney, Ian had become disillusioned with commercial insurance and was attracted to the member-owned structure offered by mutuals and Regis. He advocates that Unimutual is part of financial benefits flowing back into the sector and fosters a sense of community around protection for its members.
Ian believes the mutual approach to loss prevention and protection is a compelling model. He cites Unimutual’s member-first approach and no-cost additional services around risk management and avoidance a real differentiator compared to commercial insurance companies.
In his new role, Ian hopes to help brokers and their clients better understand the benefits of a mutual and to grow the number of mutuals across Australia.
